Anand. Attempts will be made to understand the politics of caste leaders such as Mayawati of the Bahujan Samaj Party, and the OBC leaders Mulayam Singh and Laloo Prasad Yadav. ||
||*[[http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ZESTAlternative|ZESTAlternative]] ||What do Mohandas Gandhi's spectacular asceticism, Masanobu Fukuoka's natural farming, Ivan Illich's appropriate technologies, Noam Chomsky's political pacifism, Vandana Shiva's eco-feminism, Black Elk's visionary shamanism, Chinua Achebe's novels and Isaac Newton's occultism have in common? They can all be understood as attempts to provide alternatives to a reductionist, scientific world-view, one that is so dominant today that it is inconceivable that there could be alternative ways of being. We all have misgivings about the modern age. And we have been made to believe that science, and only science, has the answer to the problems it creates. Members of ZESTAlternative hope to give voice to such misgivings by exposing each other to important critiques of the modern world, and providing alternatives to the existing systems - systems of education, medicine, technology, agriculture, language, media, art, culture, history, and, why not, even dissent. Lets regain our diversity - start with one Alternative article every alternate day. Members respond to articles but don't initiate new discussions, because ZESTAlternative is like a study circle which spends more time listening than talking. ||
||*[[http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ZESTGlobal|ZESTGlobal]] ||Have you heard of the Acheh separatist movement in Indonesia, the refugee crisis brewing in Ingushetia, or the tribes of the Kalahari desert that have been displaced because their lands have been contracted out to De Beers for mining diamonds? Do you know that UNMOGIP, a UN peacekeeping body that India does not recognize, operates on either side of the so-called Line of Control in Kashmir? Did your newspaper ever tell you that the United States is the biggest defaulter to the UN? Do you know how the rock of Gibralter has been a bone of contention between the UK and Spain for decades now? The media, specially in developing countries, tends to be inward looking. All you get in the name of international affairs is some Iraq and Afghanistan, some Bush-bashing, and some Hollywood gossip. But there's more to the world map than just North America, Europe and the Middle East. Members of ZESTGlobal exchange one article every day on international affairs, whether or not they cover the burning issue of the day. ||

= WHY DGROUPS.ORG: A NOTE FROM JAYA CHITTOOR =

I have been involved with www.dgroups.org programmatically in 2003-4, being managed by several international development partners and supporters. I find that it provides a simple front end for a dynamically managed family of discussion lists. The networking space in the Net allows much more than posts to be archived, with profiles, calendar of events, resources and links to be uploaded and retrieved. The advantages of these are the IP freedom you have with dgroups that Yahoogroups does not have. There is also an
administrators group to provide peer support for learning skills in moderation, and supporting for basic troubleshooting.

One of the important reasons why I support dgroups is that, most of us hardly read the very large/complex pages (about 18
or 20 pages when printed) “user end service agreement” when we say "I accept" when we sign up to yahoogroups or googlegroups. I encourage the moderators of new groups to read carefully the terms of service before choosing the platform.

There are 17 lists searchable from the dgroups selection of Region: Asia Pacific, and Country: India.

http://www.dgroups.org/search/index.cfm?op=dsp_search_results

The results, when analysed show that two groups have been opened, by do not have any activity, five lists are hibernating with activities being little or none, though at one point it was an active group.
